Scutari is the county seat of the namesake District, placed in North-West of Albania, close to the Adriatic Sea and on Montenegro's border-lake banks.
During the dictatorship the isolation process made worse, and Scutari is now an economically low area, far from the State's actions, with a strong social instability and hard work problems.
The urbanization process of mountain rural population is going on, and people lives in uneasy conditions, without infrastructures, social services and citizenship rights.
This phenomenon, linked with traditional social stratification, whets differences and splits up among population, creating real ghettos.
Peace Games realized the first part of a project turned to introduce sport instrument as social resource, helpful to pass social and cultural differences.
Sport involves Scutari people thanks to the proud volley tradition and the football dreams of kids, but there's a lack in culture of sport as vehicle of communication and socialization.
Together with Emilia Romagna's local administration and municipality of Scutari, Peace Games created an action supporting very weak groups, like Roma local community and kids living in the marginal districts.
Objective:
Introduce a new concept of sport, as aggregation and socialization instrument
Give to population a public sport space
Actions:
Rebuilding of old football pitch, now property of the Municipality and neglected since several years, to intend it to a private use (with fee users)and to a social purpose, involving local schools and organizations
Achievement of training courses addressed to project local workers, organized by local experts of Peace Games and Uisp, about management and use of sport as education and scialization instrument
